The Australian Road Trains Are The Biggest And Longest Trucks In The World

The road trains are widely used in countries like United States of America, Canada, Mexico, Argentina and Australia. It’s actually a method of trucking used to move freight efficiently in remote areas. The term ‘road train’ itself is used in Australia while in the United States it is known as triples, turnpike doubles and Rocky Mountain doubles. These are the words to describe these LCVs (longer combination vehicles). It’s like the other trucks with the only difference that the relatively conventional tractor unit tows two or more trailers or semi-trailers.

While checking the difference between the road trains among these countries, we came up with the fact the Australia is the home of the biggest and largest trucks in the world. Australia is covered mainly with desserts and with that in mind there is a big need to be carried large amounts of cargo across its territory. That’s the way these long truck were born there and there are even such sporting up to 110 wheels to make the things happen. Some of the configurations here in Australis are topping out at close to 200 tonnes (197 long tons; 220 short tons).

In general, the most spread road trains are between 80 and 120 tons. In the USA the trucks on public roads are limited to 2 trailers only. Each one of the trailer should be 28 ft long and a dolly to connect is a must. The limit in the United States is 63 ft from end to end. In states like Oregon, Montana and Idaho you could see three trailers. The triples are used for long-distance and the trailers are shorter than the typical single-unit trailers. You could recognize these vehicles by this sign – ‘LONG LOAD’. It should be put both front and rear.
